Our commitment

Every article in the AdvOrtho Resource Center is written to help patients and caregivers understand orthopaedic conditions, procedures, and recovery - in plain language, without hype or commercial spin. We do not accept payment to influence article content, and our editorial decisions are made independently of our directory and subscription products.

Who writes our articles

Articles are produced by the AdvOrtho editorial team, which includes health writers with backgrounds in clinical medicine, science journalism, and patient advocacy. Writers research each topic using primary sources including peer-reviewed journals, clinical practice guidelines, and resources from major orthopaedic societies.

Our primary reference sources include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and the Cochrane Library. Where clinical evidence is mixed or evolving, we say so explicitly rather than presenting a single view as settled.

Medical accuracy review

Before publication, articles covering surgical procedures, diagnostic criteria, or treatment protocols are reviewed for factual accuracy by board-certified orthopaedic surgeons or licensed physical therapists with relevant clinical experience. Reviewers check that claims are consistent with current evidence-based guidelines and flag anything that could be misleading or outdated. Reviewers are independent of AdvOrtho and are not paid to endorse any position.

How we keep articles current

Clinical guidelines change. When major orthopaedic societies update their recommendations - or when high-quality new research materially changes the standard of care on a topic - we update the affected articles and note the review date. Articles are also flagged for review when readers or clinicians identify factual concerns through our contact form.

What our articles are not

AdvOrtho articles are educational resources, not medical advice. They are written for a general audience to help readers ask better questions and make more informed decisions - not to replace a consultation with a qualified clinician.

We do not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or recommend specific surgeons. If you are experiencing symptoms, please consult a licensed healthcare provider. You can find board-certified orthopaedic surgeons in your area using our directory.

Corrections and feedback

We take accuracy seriously. If you believe an article contains a factual error or outdated information, please contact us at editorial@advortho.org. Include the article URL and the specific claim you believe is incorrect. We review all correction requests and respond within 5 business days.

Advertising and independence

AdvOrtho generates revenue through provider subscriptions and directory placements. This revenue does not influence our editorial content. Articles are not written to promote specific providers, procedures, or products. Editorial and commercial functions are kept separate.
